MISHAP TO HAURAKI

INQUIRY NOT NECESSARY DECISION OF DEPARTMENT [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Saturday The Marine Department advises that there is no necessity for any further inquiry regarding the stranding of the motor-vessel Hauraki near Auckland on August 5. The Union Company's motor-vessel Hauraki, of 7113 tons, commanded by Capt&in E. Harris, went ashore near Tararata Point, between Murray's Bay and Brown's Bay, four miles beyond Milford Beach at 3.15 p.m. on August 5. The Hauraki was bound for Auckland from Pacific Coast Canadian and American ports and encountered heavy fog while approaching the Waitemata Harbour. It was while she was endeavouring to nose her way into port through the fog that she grounded. She was refloated without damage about 24 hours later.
