SINGING AND ELOCUTION OPENING DAY'S RESULTS [BT TELEGRAPII —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON. Sunday The Wellington Competition Society's 17th annual festival was opened in the Town Hall on Saturday, and will continue for the next fortnight. The opening ceremony was performed by the Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop. Results were as follows: —Children's chorus: Wellington South school, 1; Lyall Bay school, 2. Soprano solo: Miss Dulcie McKinley (Wellington), 1; Miss K. Mullany (Napier), 2. Boys' songs: Ronald Tremain (Feilding), 1; P. McLean (Christchurch), 2. Piano solo, 15 years and tinder 18: Miss Nolo Pritchard (Wellington), 1; Kevin Osborno (Wellington), 2. Recitation, from a New Zealand author: Constance Kelly (Wellington), 1; Iris Austin (Lower Hutt), 2. Recital, with musical accompaniment: Freda Whittaker (Palmerston North), 1; Beryl Tunks (Wellington), 2. Humorous character sketch, open: Constance Kelly (Wellington), 1; Nathalie Pollock (Wellington), 2. Recitation, girls under 16: Phyllis Rough (Wellington), 1; Myra Beere (Wellington), 2. Recitation, boys under nine: Brian Hasler (Hastings), 1; Donald Porter (Wellington), 2. Classic dance: Yalcska Jenkins (Wellington), 1; Nona Hood (Wellington), 2.
