WORK IN MOUNT ALBERT
SUBSIDY ON LABOUR NO. 5 SCHEME ABANDONED There will be no more work done in Mount Albert under No. 5 scheme, according to a statement made yesterday by the Mayor of the borough, Mr. R. Ferner, following the decision of the Unemployment Board to grant a subsidy on the basis of each man engaged by the borough in its scheme of capital works. Mr, Ferner said it was intended to employ the maximum number of men, who would be engaged chiefly in forming footpaths, which necessitated the laying of concrete slabs. Men well-up in this work would be employed. Work would not be rationed, all men being given 40 hours a week, irrespective of dependants. They would earn £3 12s 6d a week.
