BICKERTON CASE
TREATMENT IN JAPAN BRITISH PROTEST URGED (Received August 16. 5.45 p.m.) LONDON, August, lfi The Manchester Guardian, in a leading article, asks when the Government intends to seek satisfaction from Japan regarding the arrest of Mr. W. M. Bickerton, formerly of New Zealand. Unless an effectual protest is lodged, says tho paper, any Briton in Japan whom the police consider harbours "dangerous thoughts" will be liable to be imprisoned, beaten and tormented without anyone knowing his fate.
