WOMEN DETECTIVES
VALUABLE WORK DONE Women detectives have come to stay, states a London writer. Last June four were appointed as full members of the Metropolitan Police Force C.1.D., after a year's probation, and it is felt that they have proved how useful a purpose they fulfil. There are three women de-tective-constables in the West End—two attached to Vino Street station and one to Marlborough Street. A fourth, Inspector Miles, is attached to Scotland Yard. The women detectives aro used for all sorts of inquiries where women are concerned, and also undertake many tasks in which they can supplement the work of men. For instance, it has been found that where a detective is using a car to visit various areas, the presence of a woman with him excites far less suspicion than if he were alone —and friendly chats by the women often elicit valuable particulars. This "woman passenger" was first tried when concentrated efforts were being made to catch a pretty bobbedhttired girl known to bo helping a gang.
