NEW MULLET BOAT

SOME NOVEL FEATURES LAUNCHING AT EARLY DATE / ' f ' A new type of mullet boat has been completed by Messrs. Cox and Filmer, of Judge's Bay, for their own use. It is 26ffc. over all, with a beam of 10ft. 3in. and a draught of 3ft. In rig, deck plan and below, the new yacht is a decided departure from the .usual type of mullet boat. She is flush-decked from the stem to within Bft. of the tuck. This does away wi,th the long coamings and gives the boat 4ft. llin. of headroom in the cabin. The centreboard is worked by a small but powerful ratchet winch which fits inside the case and does away with block, tackle and ropes, only a small Handle being on view. " Another / feature is that the yacht will be steered by a wheel instead of a tiller. The wheel will be placed in the after end of the cockpit and will work on a quadrant located under the after deck. \ Two cabins are provided. The main one is lift, long and 10ft. wide and has sleeping accommodation for six adults. A galley and sink have been provided on the starboard side aft and a wireless outfit and numerous lockers on the port side. A hinged table is built over the centreboard case, and at the after end of the cabin provision has been made for a 10 h.p. engine. The fore cabin is 7ft. long and has three bunks and a fore hatch. The boat, which will be called the Vigilant, will be fitted with a 50ft. mast and will carry the modern Bermudan rig. She will have 530 square feet of canvas in her mainsail, 108 ft. in her staysail and 87ft. in her jib.
