AIDING EX-SOLDIERS
POPPY DAY EFFORTS CANTEEN FUNDS PAYMENTS [by telegraph—own correspondent] / DUNEDIN, Tuesday At a meeting of returned soldiers in Diinedin it was stated that to date £IOO,OOO had been raised in New Zealand by Poppy Day efforts, and the sum of £IB.OOO a year was being paid out of canteen funds to alleviate distress due to unemployment. Had the canteen funds been distributed each man of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force would have received only about £2. The New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association, with 20,000 members, spoke with no weak voice when questions of importance to the welfare of ex-service men were brought before the Government. Many privileges would not have been obtained but for the efforts of the association. / '
