POPULARITY OF FLATS
SYDNEY AND MELBOURNE Living in flats is becoming increasingly popular in Sydney and Melbourne, according to Mr. H. B. Duckworth, who returned to Cliristehurch from Australia a few days ago. The popularity of Hat, lifo there, he said, was largely influenced by tho difficulty of obtaining a plot of land for a house and garden without going fivo or six miles / from the centre of tho cities. Large blocks of flats wore being built everywhere, and somo of them were Very elaborate. The rents ranged from . two guineas to 20 guineas a week.
