DAMAGE BY FLOODS
WHANGAREI, COUNTY ROADS NO MONEY FOR REPAIR WORK [from our own correspondent] WHANGAREI. Friday The serious effect of the several severe floods this winter in North Auckland was illustrated to-day at the meeting of the Whangarei County Council, when Mr. J. Morrison, member for Kiripaki Riding, said that removing slips on roads in bis riding had cost £3OO in the past two months, and as many slips remained, he was at a loss to know what to do, as the riding had practically no money left, even for maintenance. The chairman, Mr. L. Webb, said all ridings had suffered considerably. The clerk, Mr. H. C. Hemphill, said he had referred the serious position of the Kiripaki Riding to the district engineer of the Public Works Depart" ment, who said it might be possible, in view of the fact th.it the riding was without funds, to treat the matter as an urgent case. It was decided to take the matter up with the Unemployment Board and the district engineer oi: the Public Works Department, in an. effort to obtain souio financial assistanco.
