THE BAYLY CASE
RECORD OF RECENT TRIAL An authentic record of the longest murder trial in the history of New Zealand, that o£ William Alfred Bayly, who last month paid the extreme penalty for the murder of Samuel Pender Lakey and his wife, Christobel Lakey, is provided by " The Bayly Case," a book edited by Mr. H. J. Wilson, an Auckland journalist, and published : by National Magazines, Limited, Wellington. In the compilation of the volume Mr. Wilson received valuable help from Mr. Justice Herdman, who presided at the trial, prosecuting and defending counsel, the police, the pathologists who gave expert evidence and others directly concerned in the case. Mr. R. McVeagh, the well-known Auckland barrister, contributes a prcfaco. The book, which commences with the discovery of the crime on October 16, 1933, deals with all phases of the police investigations, the trial and the execution of Bayly. Numerous illustrations, including reproductions of hitherto unpublished photographs, are included in the volume.
