Keep flower bed# looked over. Stir the soil frequently between plants to prevent soil caking. Remove decaying leaves. Complete the pruning and digging of any shrubbery borders before active growth commences. Perpetual carnations rooted last month should be * potted off or lined out in the open ground. Put in chrysanthemum cuttings as they become available and line out those already rooted. Plant out pansies, violas, carnations, Iceland poppies, stocks, nemesia and cinerarias. Continue planting deciduous and evergreen trees and shrubs. Under glass make sowings of annuals for summer display of phlox, marigolds, asters, schizanthus, coreopsis, carnations, etc. Remove any dead flowers and decaying leaves in the greenhouse and give ventilation as often as possible, avoiding cold draughts. Keep a watch for greenfly and fumigate or spray on its first appearance.

Make successional sowings of peas when ground ii dry enough to work. Prepare all available ground for getting in crops. Work the ground to a good tilth before sowing seeds. Plant out cabbage, cauliflower, lettuce and onions. Sow carrots, turnips, radish, beet, spinach and onions. Plant more early potatoes and earth-up those already above the ground. Plant out rhubarb and asparagus roots. Under glass sow tomatoes, marrows and pumpkins for early crops. Make a sowing of tobacco. Make up beds for starting kumara plants. Lift any root crops left in the ground and store in clumps. Plant out herbs and make up any new beds, required. Complete pruning operations as soon as possible. Spray peach trees for leaf curl before the buds start. ' ■ In frosty districts break the leaves over maturing cauliflowers to protect the heads.
