ARBOR DAY OBSERVANCE

Normal school ceremony A ceremony in connection with Arbor Day was held yesterday at the Normal School, Epsom, the chairman of tho Parents' Association, Mr. A. T. Dow, presiding over u large attendance of visitors,, The children were assembled lit the front of the school near two plots, in each of which 10 trees, karnkas and puriris, were planted. Miss L. M. Cranwell, of the staff of the Auckland War Memorial Museum, gave ah address on native trees and the advantage of preserving New Zealand flora. She stressed the value of interesting children in tho plants of their own country.

Brief'addresses were given by Mr. T. U. Wells, chairman of tho Auckland Education Board, and IVlr. Dow. With Miss Cranwell, Mr. T. McNab, Mayor of Mount Eden, Mr. C. L. Gillies, agricultural instructor of the Education Board, and Mr. R. Isaacs, secretary to the Barents' Association, they participated in tho planting ceremony. Trees were also planted by Miss Anderson on behalf of the staff, Mrs. Campbell Boyle, 'wife of the acting-headmaster, the boy and girl captains of the school and tho three houses, Aotea, Tainui and Arawa, and the youngest boy and g'rh .
