THE ALSATIAN DOG

Sir,—l liavo been the owner of n<n Alsatian dog for about four yeais. During that time I have become very fond of him. Although there are about 300 sheep grazing in a paddock direct y opposite my house, never lias he made any attempt to worry them, although occasionally ho lias been free at nights, having slipped the collar. During the day ho is allowed to roam the Jaiu, but on no occasion has he made any attempt to attack anyone. Suggestions have been made that the registration should be raised for Alsatians. L would like to ask why all dogs of the said breed should be penalised. It mean* that a great number of innocent dogs, including my own, for i am not a rich man, will have to be destroyed Jt anything is to be done it would be fair to make it compulsory to muzzle all Alsatians while off the chain or lead. An Intkuestkd Owneii. Si r ,—it gave me great pleasure to read Mr. Stallard's remarks on Alsatians, and anyone who knows those dogs must agree with him. I am the owner of a purebred dog, and a more faithful, playful and timid animal you could not wish to know.. In fact, she is just like one of tho family, and has been taught quite a few tricks. I.hose dogs aro more nervy than people imagine. It is the cross breeds that get these lovely creatures such a bad name, and I do hope that a muzzle when not on a lead is brought to pass, instead of a heavy fee, because I could not afford to pay a heavy licence. My dog was a present, and to part with it would be like parting with one of my children. Alsatian Lbvim. Sir, —My boy delivered bread at a house for nine months where an Alsatian dog was kept. One day the dog broke the chain and leaped over the garden fence and bit him on the chest. Tho dog was beaten off with a plank of wood. How many people like to pass these brutes on the footpaths, even if their owners have them on a load. I consider tho proper place for them is iu the zoo. Next to Lions.
