THE RAGWORT MENACE

SPREAD IN WHAKATANE RESIGNATION OF INSPECTOR [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] WHAKATANE. Saturday The alarming increase in the spread of ragwort in tho Whakatane County and his inability to check the growth of the weed in the limited time at his disposal were presented as the reasons for tho resignation of tho noxious weeds inspector at this week's meeting of the County Council. The inspector stated that from tho end of August to tho end of March next year the work required the full time of one man. He was not satisfied himself with the result of the work, as his other duties precluded him from giving the time required. It was resolved that tho inspector's resignation be not accepted, and that he be advised that it was tho council's intention to take stronger action in tho matter of noxious weeds next season. The chairman stated that while ia Wellington recently he had discussed the matter with the Minister of Agriculture, who said his department intended to assist tho settlers in connection with thp eradication of ragwort.
