AUSTRALIAN BORROWING LONDON JOURNAL'S COMMENT A tilt at Australia's borrowing policy is made in a recent issue of tho London Investors' Review. Tho journal notes that of tho recent £12,000,000 loan a sum of £8,500,000 is to bo devoted to public works expenditure, and it remarks that Australia has received so many pats on the back for her efforts to put her financial house in order that there is a tendency to overlook the fact that Australian Budgets, on the whole, are far from being balanced, and that expenditure on "public works, "which covers a multitude of sins." is still heavy. Contrasting the populations of Australia and Great Britain, it points out that the £3,500.000 now to bo spent by Australia on public works would correspond to approximately £G0,00Q..000 in Great Britain. "The announcement of proposed expenditure of £60,000,000 0:1 public works by Great Britain would rightly shake confidence," it adds, "but because the figures appear to bo smaller in the case of Australia, no one pays much attention."
