HAWERA HORSES

PROMISING JUVENILES FAIRFAX AND LINK DIVINE 0. COX'S AUSTRALIAN TEAM [from OUfl OWN correspondent] HAWERA, Mouciay On account of close relationship, Davolo's impressive win in the Whyte Handicap at Trentham draws attention to Mr. F. S. Easton's rising two-year-old Fairfax, at present being prepared by J. Brown. Fairfax is by Liniond from Joanfax, and Davolo is from Imprudence, a daughter of Joanfax. Fairfax has made good progress and is well forward, and her condition suggests that she may perform prominently in the early two-year-old races. Mr. W. Ivirkland's rising two-year-old filly Link Divine is also doing splendidly and furnishing grandly. She is growing more like her dam. Silver Link, every day and impresses very much in her work, Mr. Kirkland had bad luck with Tyhenuakura last season, but high hopes arc entertained of Link Divine carrying his colours successfully.

Mr. P. Ehrhorn has a very nicely-propor-tioned colt foal by Gay Shield from Persis, thus a full-brother to Gay Seton. Porsis is the dam of Nucleus, who won the Trentham Hurdles for Ehrhorn in 1930 and is still owned by him A youngster by Gay Shield from Nucleus is in training nt- Riccarton and is regarded as very promising. Golden Promise's Progress O. Cox sprinted Golden Promise over two furlongs a couple of times last week. The first time, in comp iny with tho Colossas— Lady Egletino colt, Golden Promise ran home in 255, and on the second occasion, with Eara, on account of a muddled start, occupied 265, running* the second furlong particularly smartly. Golden Promise is coming to hand nicely and looks in great heart.

Golden Hair is getting through her routine work satisfactorily, but so far has not been asked to do more than three-quarter pace work. Round Table is also being apportioned steady pace work.

So far no definite date has been fixed foy O. Cox's departure for Australia with Golden Hair, Golden Promise and Round Table, but it will be as early as possible in August. During Cox's absence Mrs. W. D. Graham's Lord Quex —Shrill gelding General Duex will be prepared by R. Barlow at New Plymouth. Taitoru has lesumed regular track work and is going along in good style. lie has not been allowed to become gross, so will not require any length of time to get ready. Aga Khan, v ho still carries plenty of condition. is doing steady trotting and cantering. His stable mate Diagano will not take long to reach racing condition. C. Jackson, owner-trainer of these two horses, returned to Hawera on Friday after a visit to Australia. Arouse Shaping Nicely M. Conwa.v has had an addition to his team, a three-year-old filly, by Nigger Minstrel from Look Out, the latter a full-sister to Val Watch. The filly is owned by a Huntervillo sportsman. Arouse has built up considerably lately and is beginning to work well again. lie shaped nicely in a short sprint during the week and J. Brown may yet be rewarded for his patience and perseverance with him. . Carfex had his first .sprint for some time on Saturday, and, beginning more' smartly than Benedictine, beat, him home by half a length over three furlongs in 39$s. Carfex shaped particularly -well. Silvur "Wings slipped over two furlongs in 2f>s. The track was holding. The two races which Harvest Moon had at Foxton rather got to the bottom of him. but he has picked up in condition and is again working attractively.
