PLUNKET WORK
NORTHCOTE'S NEW NURSE The announcement was made by the president, Mrs. A. Campbell, at a meeting of the Northcote Committee on Wednesday evening, that Miss Joan Carmichael would replace Miss J, R, Campbell as Plunket nurse in the Northcote and Birkenhead districts. Miss Carmichael was matron at the Karitane Hospital, Mount Albert, Auckland, from November, 1930, to August, 1931, She did relieving work in various places in the Dominion from then until she went to England in 1932. After being on holiday for some months in England and Scotland, she took a refresher course at Cromwell House, the home of mothercraft in England, and later became a member of the staff of the Violet Melchett Infant Welfare Centre in Chelsea, London. On her return journey, Miss Carmichael spent 14 months on the staff of the Canadian Mothercraft, in Toronto, Canada, and since returning to New Zealand had rejoined the staff at Auckland Plunket headquarters.
