MONTHLY AT HOME DISPLAY OF WORK MADE The monthly At Home of the Catholic Women's League was held in the league rooms yesterday afternoon. The president, Mrs. M. Pilling, presided. A brief address on her recent trip to Italy was given by Miss L. McDonnell, who described her visit to the Vatican, and her presentation to His Holiness The Pope. A vivid description of the Colisseum and the arena and cells was also given by the speaker. A musical programme was 'presented, those contributing being Mrs. Maguire, Miss Doris Bransgrove and Miss Daphne Higham. The accompanists were Miss W. Cooke and Miss Belshaw.

The secretary gave a resume of the league's work during the past month, this including the making and distributing of garments by the Sewing Circle to the St. Vincent do Paul Society and to individual cases. The bi-annual appeal for assistance for various charitable organisations was also held. A wonderful display of garments was made in the welfare workroom and also in the lounge. Many beautifully made articles- of clothing were sent from the League Sewing Circle, the Welfare Club, Tauranga, Dargaville and Waiuku branches. Individual members had also contributed. The gifts included woollen quilts from the Otaua Women's Institute, pyjamas, crocheted and knitted sets for babies and small children, woollen toys, patchwork quilts, trousers and tunics. The display was a wonderful example of w hat can be done with material thai would otherwise be discarded as useless.
