AUSTRALIAN SHEEP
EXPORTATION BAN COMPLAINT OF BREACHES (Received July 5. 9.5 p.m.) CANBERRA. July 5 In the House of Representatives today, Mr. J. A. Beasley (Labour) complained that the Government was "stacking the cards" against the wool industry by allowing Merino stud sheep to be sold" out of the country in spite of the embargo.
Mr. Beasley said there was a strong suggestion that consignments of Merinos sent through New Zealand were reexported to Japan. Mr. F. H. Stewart, Minister of Commerce, in replying, said that in the four and a-half years during which the embargo against the exportation of sheep had been in operation only 359 rams and 32 ewes worth £4/31 had been exported. Of these 326' rams and all the ewes went to New Zealand, o2 rains to the New Hebrides and one to India. In regard to Corriedales Mr. Stewart said it would be futile to take action to prevent their exportation unless New Zealand co-operated. The matter had been taken up with the New Zealand Government-
