FRUIT PRICES VARY SCARCITY OF FISH Alterations in the prices of fruit and vegetables have been general during the past week, although the demand has not been keen. Poorer grades of apples are now practically finished and coolstored supplies are being drawn upon more freely. Island oranges, which were very plentiful last week, have firmed slightly and are realising from Is 3d to 2s a dozen. To meet this competition Galifornian oranges have eased in price and are selling at from 2s to 3s. Local grapefruit are increasing in size. The price ranges from Is 6d to 2s 6d a dozen. Outdoor and Island tomatoes are making their appearance, and are bringing from 8d to lOd a pound. Celery has become less plentiful and is selling at ,4d to 8d a head. Hothouse cucumbers are in heavier supply and prices have fallen to 6d to 8d each. Eggs are steady in price at Is 9d a dozen. All varieties of fish, with the exception of schnapper, are scarce, but prices are unchanged.
