BANDSMEN CONFER
SOUTH AUCKLAND. UNION NEXT CONTEST AT TE AROHA [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON". Thursday Delegates from all parts of the TVaikato and the surrounding districts were present at the second annual meeting in Hamilton of the South Auckland Brass Band Union. The president, Mr. J. R. Fow, presided. "It is gratifying to be able to record another year of substantial progress, notwithstanding the difficult times through which we are passing," said Mr. Fow in his review of the year's activities. The statement of accounts disclosed a satisfactory financial position. A number of remits were discussed, one of these being a recommendation from the Cambridge band that the military inspection at the contests should not extend for moro than eight minutes. After some discussion this remit was adopted, with the extra provision that the inspection of instruments should also take place within the same time limit. It was decided to hold the next band contest at To Aroha. The Mayor of Te Aroha, Mr. R. Coulter, said a strong committee had been set up to make the bandsmen's stay very enjoyable. In one afternoon a guarantee of over £l5O had been secured. The Borough Council and other bodies would lend any further support necessary. The following officers were elected:— President, Mr. J. R. Fow; patrons, the Hon. J. A. Young, the Hon. C. E. Macmillan, and Messrs. F. Lye, D. S. Reid and J. N. Massey, M.P.'s; secretary, Mr. G. Parkhouse; treasurer, Mr. F. Kear; executive, Messrs. F. Milne, A. E. Savage, W. Hayes, F. Kear, Mensforth, Redshaw and D. MeMahon. '
