SPORT IN THE NORTH

HOKIANGA ACTIVITIES LIBERATION OF PHEASANTS [BY TF.T/EGHAPJI —OWN correspondent] KOHUKOHU, Thursday A meeting of the Hokianga Acclimatisation Society was hekl to-day, when it was reported that some 60 pheasants had been ordered for liberation in Hokianga. The society hoped to purchase 200 head next season. It was expected to have a close season next year, and the Minister was being written to with this end in view. It was decided to obtain an expert opinion as to the most suitable trout with which to stock the many excellent streams in the county. Evidence of the keenness of sportsmen generally in the eradication of pests, particularly hawks and weasels, was shown by the record number which had been destroyed.

It was anticipated that the number of licences sold this year would show u great decrease.
