OTAMATEA RATES

DECISION OF COUNCIL [by telegraph—own correspondent] PAPAROA, Thursday General rates for the year were struck by the Otamatea County Counc'l at its meeting yesterday. They are as follows: —Mareretu riding, 2gd in the pound; Paparoa riding, 3Jd; Wairau riding, 23d; Whakapirau riding, lid; Tokatoka riding, 23d; Ruariding, ljd; Matak&ie riding, 2d; Kaiwaka riding, 2§d. The rating in the county is on unimproved value. The assistant-clerk, Mrs. J. J. Sutherland, applied for an increase in salary from £2 to £2 10s a week, provided she worked an extra half hour a day. The council decided to defer dovision U'ltil next meeting. Mrs. Sutherland subsequently handed in her resignation. y
