Linklater (Government —Manawatu) in the House of Representatives to-day, Tho Hon. J. G. Cobbc, Minister of Justice, said the Government had had the matter under consideration for some time. It intended to introduce legislation at an early date in tho direction of increasing penalties for the conversion of cars.

The present penalty is a fine not exceeding £2O or imprisonment not exceeding three months. In addition, the person convicted may be ordered to pay to the owner a sum not exceeding £2O by way of compensation for any damage done to the vehicle.
