MOTHERS' UNION

A SPIRITUAL INFLUENCE PLANS FOR ORPHANAGE The seven ill annual meeting of the "YVaikato Diocesan Mother's Union was held in Hamilton on Tuesday. Representatives from Hamilton, Frankton, Matamat.a, Cambridge, Huntly, To Aroha, Stratford, Fitzroy, Okato, 'lo Ivuiti, Ngaruawaliia and Otorolianga branches were present. Corporate communion was held in St. Peter's Cathedral in the morning, the celebrant being the Rev. C. W. Turner, vicar of Te A roll a

The annual report, submitted by the president, Mrs. C. W. Turner, and the secretary, Mrs. R. Sprague, referred to the call to renewal of spiritual life, which was made to all members during the last year. There was a loyal response in the Waikfito diocese, and the final services of rededicatiou and thanksgiving were well attended, an invalid prayer circle also being formed. A stained glass window was presented to St. Peter's Cathedral. Most of the branches showed an increased membership and two branches had been revived.

Mrs. Turner said that during the next year special efforts would be made to establish an orphanage fn the diocese. A fund had been formed for the purpose some years ago, but to date only £154 had been collected. In an appeal that would be made this year it was hoped that £'3oo would be raised, and that next year the orphanage would become an established fact.

Bishop Cherrington addressed the gathering and commended the work of the Mothers' Union. Ho said that such an organisation, aiming as it did to raise the spiritual life of its members, was very necessary in a young diocese and he hoped its influence would continue to grow.

Mrs. Turner announced that the next meeting of the Diocesan Council would be held at Fitzroy next February.
