MOUNT EDEN WORKS

EXPENDITURE AUTHORISED

Authority to proceed with various rein the Mount Eden district, subject to limitations as to tho number of men to be engaged and wages expenditure, has been received by the Mount Eden Borough Council from the officer in charge of unemployment in Auckland, Mr. W. Slaughter. Tho employment of 50 men at an expenditure of £1755 was sanctioned in connection with both the Normanbv Road pound and Auckland Grammar School works, while on the Edwin Street work the employment of 30 men at an expenditure of £546 was authorised.

It was reported by the foreman of works that at present there were 52 men engaged under the Government subsidy scheme. At a recent meeting tho council decided that up to 100 men should bo employed on drainage work at full pay for a trial of 13 weeks.
