AUCKLAND GRAMMAR WINS MOUNT ALBERT'S BIG SCORE The Auckland and Mount Albert Grammar Schools were both victorious in the second series of games played on Saturday afternoon in the first grade competition for secondary schools. Auckland Grammar played Sacred Heart College and won a thrilling contest by 9 points to 6. The score was equal for the greater part of the game, but almost on the call of time Grammar obtained the winning try. The final score comprised two unconverted tries and a penalty goal to two penalty goals. Although the Sacred Heart forwards played well, Grammar, territorially, had the better of play, the backs combining with the forwards to give an exceedingly bright display of Rugby m spite of the heavy ground. Mount Albert defeated Takapuna Grammar School on the /Takapuna ground by 25 points to 0. The successful team's general superiority was indicated by the scoring of seven tries, two of which were converted. Auckland Grammar now holds a twopoint lead for the championship from King's College and Mount Albert. TRY IN LATE STAGES AUCKLAND GRAMMAR'S WIN For several minutes after the start, Grammar was attacking in Sacred Heart territory. A good effort was made by Hare, the Sacred Heart fullback, who caught the ball from a cross-kick by Knight, ran to halfway, and centred. A Grammar forward was offside, and Hare just failed to goal. Slowness on the part of Sacred Heart players to take the ball from a high kl ? V, 88 ' more enabled Grammar to reach tho other team's line. The ball was sent out to Cogliland, and, piercing the defence, he threw a nicely-timed pass to Sayers. who had a clear run in. Passmore's kick failed. Sacred. Heart retaliated, and offside by a Grammar forward enabled Hare to goal from a good position, making the half-time score: Grammar, 3; Sacred Heart, 3.. Soon after the resumption, deceptive play by Coghland nearly brought Grammar another try, but his pass rielit on the line went astray. Sacred Heart was penalised, however, and Passmore put Grammar in the lead with a splendid kick. An accurate line-kick by Hare placed Sacred Heart in a handy position; a penalty was awarded against Grammar, and he again made the score equal with a beautiful kick from the side-line. Excitement was very high, as Grammar, during the final 15 minutes, trieu its hardest to score, the backs continually receiving tho ball from the forwards and making bright, open passing rushes. Three minutes beforo the call of time Grammar s persistency was rewarded. Jones capping a combined movement with a try. Passmore was unoble to convert. The final score was: Grammar, 9: Sacred Heart.
