MARTON HOUSE BURNED

ABSENCE OF OCCUPANTS [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] MARTON, Fridny Ono of the oldest residences in Marton was destroyed by fire last night. This was a five-roomed house in Oxford Street, owned by Mrs. Ward and occupied by her son, Mr. <T- Ward, who at the time of the outbreak was on duty as fireman at a picture theatre. His wife was visiting friends. The fire had been burning for over half an hour when the alarm was given, and although the brigade was promptly on the scene, there was no chance of saving the building, which was burned to the ground. The house, which was over 50 years old, was covered by a small insurance, but Mr. Ward had no cover on the contents.
