RELIEF CAMPS
Sir,—-Would you grant mo a little space it single men in back block camps. What hope has the single man of ever getting work at his calling or trade? In our camp wo get the paper and mail once a week, weather and the skipper of boat permitting. Then what chance has a single man in camp of ever getting married on relief pay? Mr. Coates tells us it is not pay, but'pockc-t money. The question of work crops uo again. Why cannot a scheme be arranged whereby a single man on completing a term of say six months' work in a camp would lie entitled to sixmonths' relief work in town, and so give him a chance of obtaining work at his trade? As it is now if he once goes into a camp he is isolated from tho cities, and it seems that the balance of his life must necessarily be spent in camps. ' Seavorth.
