BRASS BANDS CONTEST

QUICKSTEP COMPETITION RESULTS AT ROTORUA [by TKLKUIIAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] ROTORUA. Monday The South Auckland brass band contest was continued to-day. The weather was ideal and the B and C grade quickstep competition attracted a very large crowd in the Government grounds this afternoon. A very fine display of marching playing was given by the bands. Prior to assembling in the Government grounds the bands inarched through the town. The following bands competed:—C grade: Cambridge Municipal, Whakatano Citizens, Pukekohc Municipal, Ngaruawahia Municipal. B grade: Waikato Regimental and Hamilton Municipal, To A roll a Municipal, Hauraki Regimental (Thames), Tauranga Municipal. Results were: —• C Grade.—Cambridge, 150iJ military points, 120 points for music, total 276J, 1; Pnkekohe, 142!J, 128—2703, 2; Ngaruawahia, 1302, 115—2152, J*. B Grade.—Te Aroha. 1G1;J, 132 2f)<53, 3 ; Rotorua, 15;}}, 1 <10—293J, 2; Waikato, 1473, 1:38—2853, .'l. The aggregate points for the contest are as follows:—-C grade: Pukekohc, 325 points test selection, 135 hymn test,, total 260, and Cambridge, 125, 135, total 260, equal; Whakatane, 126, 128— 251; Ngaruawahia, 12-1, 127—251. R grade: Waikato Regimental, 142, 131— 276; Rotorua. HO, 135 —275; Te Aroha, 136, 126 —262; Hauraki Regimental, 130, 130—260. The 13oosey Shield, awarded to the band that scored most points in music, was won by the Rotorua Band, with <lls points, beating Waikato by one point.
