TURF IN AUSTRALIA

RESULTS AT KANDWICK LIMARCH WINS ST. LEGER DONCASTER TO CHATHAM GOLDEN WINGS JUST BEATEN (Received April 1, 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, April 1 The Australian Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting was opened at ftandwick yesterday in dull and showery weather. The track consequently was slow. The attendance was 45,000. Silver Scorn was warmly supported for the Autumn Plate. After running in a forward position throughout, she appeared likely to make tlio race interesting in the final stages, but was unable to withstand a fast-finishing effort b\' Peter Pan. The New Zealand-bred colt Sir John, considered to be the outstanding colt of the season, gave an inglorious display in the Sires' Produce Stakes. Commencing on the outside of the field, the colt never appeared to be going kindly, and .apparently found the soft track unpalatable. Dark Sky won by two lengths from Myra Tip, with Subsidy third. Liniarch, owned by Messrs. E. R. Davis and O. Nicholson, of Auckland, compensated New Zealanders for the narrow defeat of Golden Wings in the Doncaster Handicap by winning the St. Leger. After running a length behind Hall Mark, he finished strongly in the final stages and secured the victory from Blixten by a head. Goklcu Wings gave a taste of his galloping ability in the Doncaster. Taking up a prominent position early, he remained in charge until a few strides from the post, where the gallant Chatham under the heavy burden of 10.4, poked his nose in front. Peter Jackson enhanced his Sydney Cup prospects by a capital finishing eflort for third in the Autumn Plate. Results: — FIRST BRUSH HURDLE RACE, Of £300; about 2 miles ABBOT'S LAD, C. M.
