TO-DAY'S PROGRAMME

THE ST. LEGER CONTEST H. O. NOLAN HANDICAP FIELD REVIEW OF THE ACCEPTANCES The Auckland Racing Club's Autumn Meeting will be concluded Jit liillersJic to-day, when the chief races will be the H. 6. Nolan Handicap, tho Great Northern St* Leger Stakes and the Huia- Handicap. There will again be several small fields, but most of the races have filled well and some interesting contests should eventuate. A rearrangement has boon made in the order of running and the St. Leger will now be the first event. Following are tho acceptances, with a review of the prospects in each race by "Archer": — 12.2—GREAT NORTHERN ST. LEGER STAKES, Of £450; three-year-olds; colts and geldings 8.10. fillies 8.8; 1} miles st lb _ at lb D'Artagnan . 810 Spiral . . . . 810 Epigram ... 810 Werohia . . . 8 10 Impasto .... 810 Guy Sheila . . 8 a Killadar ... 810 Melisanue o a Red Manfred . 8 10 It is probable that there may bo a few defections. Epigram and Gay Sheila are in other races, and may bo reserved for handicap events. Red Manfred has proved superior to the others up to a mile and a-half, and should have excellent prospects, although his tendency to pull may he against him when it comes to running an extra quarter of a mile. However, if he settles down early and the pace is not too solid his brilliancy should assist him greatly. His chief danger may come from Spiral, who won over tho distance at Irentham, and is now very solid. The favourites may be SPIRAL, RED MANFRED. 12,<12—NELSON HANDICAP, Of £275; 1 mile stlb st lb Senior .... 8 8 Lagoon .... 7 7 King Musk ..86 Expectancy . 7 (i Royal Dash ..83 Loombination 7 -1 Versant ... 8 2 Solomon ... 7 2 Hushing ... 8 2 Chief Clerk . 7 0 Gold Pocket . 8 1 Darrywell ..70 Alpinus .... 8 1 Morehu ... 7 0 United .... 712 Supreme Ruler 7 0 Coronis .... 7 8 Uorowhonua . 7 0 Bracket: Coronis and Solomon. Neither Senior nor King Musk had the best of luck on Saturday when they ran good races, and both should be very dangerous. Versant is a likely improver, and so is United, who may do better with a stronger horseman. Hushing should again race well, and others who may have to be reckoned with are Gold Pocket, Coronis, Lagoon, Alpinus, Solomon and Expectancy. It should be a good betting race and some who may find favour are SENIOR, KING MUSK, UNITED. I.27—VICTORIA HANDICAP, Of £300; two-year-olds; 6 fur. 8t lb st lb Royal Capris ..... 7 7 Apellant ..92 Waitaka ... 7 0 Lady Ivyra. . 8 7 Lady Kyra is an improving filly who won well on the first day, and she should again show up prominently in spite of a rise oi 101b. Royal Appellant has been consistent, and should be more at. home in this class than when he tackled the best in the_ Great Northern Champagne Stakes, in which he was outclassed. Capris may do i better after her race on the first day, and slight improvement would be sufficient to make Waitaka a possibility. The favourite may be LADY KYRA. 2.7—ST. HELIERS HURDLES, Of £275; 12 miles et lb st lb Brown Abbey 11 2 Mangu King . 10 1 Val Watch .10 6 Ruby Meteor 9 8 Catoma .... 10 1 Cargen .... 9 0 Val Watch created a very favourable impression when she won at Paeroa. last month and she is an improver who should take a good deal of beating. She has more speed than the average hurdler and is also a quick fencer. Catoma has not raced for bodip time, but has been working well, and should make a forward showing. Brown Abbey can be expected to give a good account of himself and Maunga King, a recent winner, also has ft chance. Ruby Meteor is a possibility, but Cargen has no recent form. Popular fancies may be VAL WATCH, CATOMA.

2.52 H. 0. NOLAN HANDICAP, Of .£650; li mile 3 st lb stlb Master Brierly 10 0 Royal Artist . 7 9 Takakua ... 8 0 Baroscope . . 7 S Sunny Sky ..80 Gay Broney . 7 fi King March . 7 12 Epigram ... 7 3 Knight of Ornamental . 7 0 Australia . 710 Maori Boy ..70

Master Brierly's performance on Saturday was impressive, and he should again make a forward showing, in spite of his big weight. Taknkua, who was second to Argentic over 11 furlongs at Trentham last month, should be seen to more advantage here than in the Easter Handicap, in which he did not havo a good passage. Knight of Australia is likely to improve upon his first day's running, and Royal Artist is another who may do better King March should have benefited by his race on Saturday, and Gay Broney should again run well. Sunny Sky is also a possibility, but Epigram, Ornamental and Baroscope will require to improve upon their first day's form to have chances. The favourites may include KNIGHT OF AUSTRALIA, MASTER BRIERLY. TAKAKUA.

3.32—AUTUMN STEEPLECHASE, Of I! 350; about 3 miles st lb stlb Callamart . . .11 12 Biform .... 10 7 Billy Boy . .11 11 Patutahi ... 9 7 Snow Prince . 10 10 Town Beauty . 0 "7 Simeon . . . 10 10 Grant's Opal . 0 0 As Snow Prince is equally at home over country as over hurdles, his third in the Brighton Hurdles should ensure him getting strong support. Callamart took no harm from his fall on Saturday, and should go well, in spite of his big weight. Billy Boy has no recent form and may bo all the better for a race, but his good jumping wn. be a. factor in his favour. Simeon is a distinct possibility, and Biform is a, genuine stayer who may have to be seriously reckoned with. Ho showed promise as a steeplechaser at Paeroa. and is now better conditioned. Patutahi was soro after his race on the first day. and Town Beauty may feel the lack of recent racing. Some who may bo in demand are BIFORM. SNOW PRINCE. CALLAMART.

4.17-HUIA HANDICAP, Of £150; 6 fur. at lb 6t lb Jonathan ... 9 4 Puss Moth ..78 Gay Sheila ..85 Lordly Knight 7 4 Star Artist . . 711 L'Allegro . . 7 3 British King lord . . 7 ] Columbia . . 7 10 Hampton Park 7 0 Pomp 7 9 Sinking Fund 7 0 The top-weight Jonathan is at the top of his form, and should again raco well. Gay Sheila is nicely placed and the only doubt about her iu that she was sore on Saturday and may not have been benefited by her hard race. However, if sho i 3 herself what beats her should win. Star Artist should do better here than in the Eastar Handicap, ii.nd tho flfinio applies to 1/Allegro, who is just returning to form. A repetition of Saturday's running should. make Pomp extremely dangerous. British Columbia and Puss Moth are both possibilities, while King Ford, Hampton Park and Sinking Fund all have speed enough to possess chances. The main fancies may include POMP. JONATHAN, L'ALLEGRO. B.!—ISLINGTON HANDICAP, Of £350: 1 mile bllb st lb Curie 9 13 Rust 8 3 Impusto . . . 8 10 Sea Fox ... 8 0 Pomp 810 Karangapai ..80 Tmamint ... 8 8 Psychologist 8 0 Desert Star . 8 7 Gay Cockade . 8 0 Chief Cook . 8 3 King's Archer 8 0 Lady Spy . .83 Jnlldy Karo . 8 0 Carfex .... 8 3 Prolyxo ... 8 0 Bracket: Pomp and Rust, The form horses are Pomp and Imamint. Pomp has a previous engagement, but if reserved for this race his prospects should be bright, with a strong horseman in the saddle. Impasto failed to reproduce his track fornl in the Easter Handicap, in which lie got in the ruck early, but this is a class of race ill which his brilliancy should assist him considerably. Curie made a fine showing in the Enstei Handicap, and may be improved for the run, so that, lie should go well in spite of his big weight. Other possibilities are King's Archer, Lady Spy, Sea Fox and Psychologist. The favourites may bo CURIE. IMPASTO, KING'S ARCHER, ROYAL APPELLANT SOLD Tho two-year-old Royal Appellant changed hands on Saturday, when he was purchased from Mr. E. I\. Plaisted by Dr. M. G. Pezaro. Royal Appellant ran in his new owner's colours for the first time in the Great Northern Champagne Stakes, but ho found the company too select • and failed to make a showing. He is to remain in J. M. Buchanan's atablo at Ellerslie.
