NO OVERTIME WORK

UNION COMPANY VESSEL SHIP'S DEPARTURE DELAYED Owing to the waterside workers refusing to work overtime in loading the Union Company's steamer Waipiata at Prince's Wharf, the vessel was unable to sail for southern ports on Thursday evening, as was intended, and her departure had to be postponed until this morning. The vessel arrived from southern ports last Monday afternoon and very little cargo work was done on board on Tuesday, as it was a very wet day. She was scheduled to sail for Wellington and South Island ports at five o'clock on Thursday evening and the delay on Tuesiday necessitated overtime work to expedite the loading. The waterside workers engaged on the vessel refused to work overtime on Wednesday evening. They resumed loading on Thursday morning, but again refused to work after five o'clock in the evening. No reason was given, the men merely stating they did not want to work overtime. ,

No difficulty was experienced with the men loading the Blue Star Line steamer Doric Star at Queen's "Wharf. She was loading until 10 o'clock on Wednesday and Thursday evenings in order to be ready to sail for London at five o'clock this evening.
