FINAL TRACK WORK
FAST TIMES RECORDED IMPASTO AND JONATHAN FOUR FURLONGS IN 47 4-5 BY ARCHER Weather and track conditions were perfect for training operations at Ellerslie yesterday and.some brilliant sprinting was accomplished on the No. 1 grass, where the going was fast. Impasto took the honours by shading Jonathan over half a mile in the good time of 47 4-os, and others who galloped well were Takakua, Mungacre, Pin Money, Golden Chant, Carfex, Lady Kvra and Lagoon.
On the No. 1 grass Rust and Burnish, carrying light boys, sprinted three furlongs in 37 4-ss. Rust finished slightly in front, but Burnish was going comfortably at the end. Burnish looks a much-improved filly and Rust is in very solid condition.
King's Archer completed useful work with a sprint up the straight. He is very bright and muscular and his appearance indicates that he is probably better than at any previous stage of the current season.
Thespis was worked over a couple of rounds at a strong pace. He has been working with plenty of freedom and should be capable of a good showing in the Brighton Hurdles if he jumps with the same confidence as he has been doing in his schooling.
Golden Hair (Wiggins) had no difficulty in accounting for Ornamental (Cammick) over a mile in 1.46, the last half in 52 2-ss. Golden Hair is in good heart and in the probable absence of Gay Sheila and Star | Artist will have a weak field to oppose in { the Great Northern Oaks. ! Senior (Orange) completed his work with ! three furlongs in 39s and Spiral ran home from the half-mile in 565. Senior is on the : improve and nhould perform solidly in the j hack events at the meeting. A Good Seven Furlongs Takakua (Goulsbro) and Mungacre (Wiggins), after running the first-half mile in 49 3-ss, finished up seven furlongs in 1.30. Takakua, on the outside, was going particularly well at the finish ana Mungacre s effort was distinctly good for u horse in his class. If he runs lip to the gallop, Mungacre should take a lot of baating with the minimum in the Eden Handicap. Lady Kyra (Wiggins) was going better than Lagoon (Goulsbro) at the conclusion of a smartly-run three furlongs in 36 4-ss. Lady Kyra had a good deal the better of the weights and the inside running, but went pleasingly. Golden Chant (Cammick). after running the first three in 37 2-ss, finished up six furlongs in 1.16 2-5. She was running on well at the finish and it should not be for lack of condition if she fails to make a showing in the Easter Handicap. Impasto (Goulsbro) went attractively to shade Jonathan (Parsons) over half a mile in 47 4-ss. The first furlong was run in 11 3-5s and they were always close together, with Impasto going the better on the outside. Impasto seems to have improved since racing at Te Aroha, and his brilliancy and light weight may take him a long way in the Easter Handicap. Pin Money (Wiggins) displayed a fine turn of speed in dashing over half a mile in 48s. Pin Money is carrying an improved appearance and seems to be more salid than formerly. Callamart Finishes Well Callnmarl (C. Thomson) and Mia Stella (Smith) went about a mile and a-quarler, running the last, round in 1.59 4-5 and the last six furlongs in 1.22 4-5. They were together most of the way, but. Callamart ' had the measure of his companion at (tie | finish, where he was going very strongly, j Mia Stella has brightened up quite a lot : and may go better in a race, i Carfex (Vaughan) had no difficulty in ! beating Sea Fox (light boy) over six furi longs in 1.16 2-5. They were together over ' the first three in 38 2-ss, but Carfex gained ' an advantage after rounding the turn, and ! his rider had a good hold of him in the ! last furlong. , . . i Riotous (Wiggins) moved freely over a round in 1.59 4-5 and Snow Prince L. ' Dulieu) completed a serviceable task with six furlongs in 1.23 2-5. Biform (F. Thompson) did strong work on the tan. running home the last three i furlongs in 42 2-ss. He appears to have ! made some progress since racing at Paeroa i a fid may be very dangerous in the Brighton ! Hurdles. „ . .... i i ! Red Manfred was not doing hiß best while ' running half a mile in 50 3-5s He hit out very freely and is in great heart.
