A NOVEL RUG

WITH FOOT POCKET Here is a simple rug that has many uses, but is merely made from an old blanket and covered with pretty cretonne or chintz. An invalid will find it a cosy rug and foot warmer. Mothers can adapt it as a pram cover, or as an extra coverlet for a child's cot, and one which baby cannot throw off. Take a blanket the size you require, and cover it with cretonne or chintz, binding and quilting it neatly. Then take another piece of blanket or warm flannel, and sew it a third of the way up from the bottom to form a pouch or pocket. When the rug is used across the knees, let this part rest on the floor, and slip the feet inside the pocket; for extra warmth this pocket can be padded with cotton wool and lined. The cot or pram cover is made in similar fashion, the pocket stitched in position, and the edge bound with braid to keep it firm. Place the child's feet in, and draw up the coverlet, and you will find that even the most restless child will keep cosy and warm and avoid getting a chill through throwing the bed clothes off in the night.
