RUGBY FOOTBALL

MARIST TOURNAMENT The annual Rngby football tournament between teams representing Marist clubs throughout the North Island, which is to be held in Auckland this year, will commence to-day. A large amount oi interest is centering in the tournament, and it is anticipated that eome very bright play will bo witnessed. Ther.e are a number of outstanding players competing in eaish of the teams. The teams which will be competing are _ Auckland, Wellington. Hamilton, Napier, Gisborne and Wanganui. Two matches will be played this morning, one at Blandford Park and the other at Sacred Heart College, while further games will be decided in the afternoon at Blandford Park. Following is the draw for today's play:—Gieborne v. Hamilton. Sacred Heart College, 10.30 a.m.; Wellington v. Napier, Blnndford Park, 10.30 a.m.; Auckland v. _ Wanganui, Blandford Park, 1.45 p.m.: winners of 10.30 a.m. matches meet at Blandford Park at 3 p.m. NORTHGOTE AND BIRKENHEAD CLUB'S ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of tho Northcote and Birkenhead Rugby Football Club was presided over by Mr. J. W. Lethbridge. Reference was made by the chairman to the great loss tha club had suffered by the death of Mr. R, B. Brown, who had been a strenuous worker in its interests since the inception of the club. He had served in various capacities, including that of president. The gathering stood in silence as a tribute to the memory of Mr. Brown and in sympathy with his relatives. Mr. H. Frost, of the Auckland Rugby Union, commended tho progress of the club, and made appreciative reference to the work of Mr. Brown. The report referred to the improved standard of football displayed by the club's teams. The financial statement showed the club to be in a satisfactory position. Tho following officers were elected:—Patron, Mr. R. A. Johnston; vice-patrons, Messrs. J. T. Aspden and N. E. Heath; president, Mr. J. W. (Lethbridge; vioe-presi-dents, same as last year; club captain, Mr. A. W. Millar; secretary, Mr. A. M. Nicholson; treasurer, Mr. D. Crowe; assistant secretary, Mr. W. Nicholson; committee, Messrs. D. Brown was elected a life member of the club.

THE WAIUKU UNION [from our own correspondent] WAIUKU. Thursday About 40 members attended tho annual meeting of the Waiuku Rugby Union. In view of the liability undertaken in tho purohaso of a ground, tho financial position as disclosed by the balance-sheet was considered to be satisfactory. The report stated that the union had been successful in retaining the Massey Cup last season against all challengers. Tho following officers were elected•Patrons, Mr. J. N. Massey, M.P., and Mr. G. Arkle, sen.; president. Dr. R. S. Whiteside; vice-presidents, Messrs. J. D. Crawford, L. T. Peterson. H. Knight, T. Aylward, F. Shipherd, S. Kraljevich. R. Seawright, T. P. McNamara, D. Anderson, A. Thursday It was reported by the president of tho Tuakau Football Club, Mr. J. Allen, at tho annual meeting, when over 50 members were j>resent, that tho past season had been a successful ono from all points of view. The yoar'a operations resulted in a profit of £4 ss, making tho credit balanco over £ls. The following officers were elected:—Patron, Mr. W. A. Smeed; president, Mr. Allen; vice-presidents, Messrs. It was decided to enter a senior, junior and if possible a third grade team in tho inter-club competitions. HAMILTON OLD BOYS' CLUB [from our own correspondent] , HAMILTON, Thursday Thero was a good attendance of members at the annual meeting last evening of the Old Boys' Rugby Football Club. Tho report etated that the club entered three teams in the local competitions and they all met with a fair measure of success. Tho first juniors went through the season without a loss, winning both the Elliot Shield and the Gilling Cup. In recognition of his past services to the club a presentation was made to the retiring secretary, Mr. A. V. Gilling. It was decided to enter a team in the fourth grade competition. The following officers were elected:—President. Mr. W. H'. West: vicepresidents, 20 were elected; secretary and treasurer, Mr. W. G. Hammond; club captain. Mr. J. M. Burns and T. Cooper. CAMBRIDGE SUB-UNION [from our own correspondent] CAMBRIDGE, Thursday The annual meeting of tho Cambridge Rugby Sub-union was presided over by Mr. H. Cubis, there being an attendance of 30. The report showed that the past season had been quite a satisfactory one, with an improvement in senior grade football. The balance-sheet showed credits totalling f162 3s and other assets £-27 10s. The officers elected were:—Patron. Mr. F. Lye. M.P.: president, Mr. H. Cubis (re-elected); vicepresidents, Messrs. S. Lewis, V. G. Boulton, B. N. Garland; auditor, Mr, W. H. Woolley; secretary and treasurer, "Mr. Edgar James (re-elected); delegates to Waikato Union, Messrs. Cubis and Jame3; selectors, Messrs. E. Scott (seniors), L. Bourko (juniors), W. Tucker (third grade). The meeting decided to open the season with club fixtures on April 14.
