YACHTING

RACE TO COROMANDEL WINS FOR MAHAKI AND CELOX The annual yacht race to Coromandel started off King's Wharf on Thursday evening. The race was divided into two classes, keel yachts and mullet boats, which were sent away together at eight o'clock. Among the competitors in the race for keel yachts was the ketch Te Rapunga, in which Captain D. J. Dibbern and his mate, Mr. G. Schramm, are voyaging round the world. Her crew for the race was augmented by four members of the Akarana Yacht Club. A light eouth-eaeterly -wind was blowing when the race started, which gave the boats a fair wind down tho harbour and across the gulf. The competitors in the race for keel yachts were Ariel, Mahaki, Speedwell, Te Rapunga, Peri, Mizpah, Rover, Karema and Tofua. The starters in tho mullet boat class were Omatere, Celox, Starloch. Starlight, Kamuri, Mirage, Cynara and Malua. The finishing times were:— Keel Yachts.—Mahaki, 2h 30m ss: Ariel, 2h 37m 40s; Peri, 3h 13s. The result was: Mahaki, 1: Ariel, 2; Peri, 3. Mullet Boats. —Celox, 2h 21m 40s; Omatere, 2h 23m 30s; Starloch, 2h 26m 495; Starlight, 2h 45m 355. Tho result was: Celox, 1; Starloch, 2; Omatere, 3. A regatta will be held off Coromandel today, when races will be held for all classes.
