PENWOMEN'S CLUB
'l "Firing Flowers of the Tropics" was the title of Mr. W. H. Hemingway's ! lecture to'the members of the Penwomen's' Club on Friday afternoon. The i speaker related experiences during his f search for butterflies in Queensland, Japan, India and South America. A fine collection of butterflies and moths including the Croesus moth, the _ most 1 beautiful in existence, was exhibited to those present.-Contrary to general belief only 1 per cent of insects are harmful tG man. . Lady Angela St. Clair Erskme expressed admiration for the New Zealand women's capabilities in work and play. To managfe a house, to enjoy outside interests and to be cheerful and entertaining appeared a great feat to the Englishwoman. Perhaps the reason lay in the beauty of the scenery and of the climate. Mrs. Carr Rollett presided. / At the annual meeting of the arts section of the League the following officers and committee were elected:— Mrs. Ryburn, convener; Mrs. Mase£eld, secretary; committee, Mesdames Tonkin, Snadden, Misses Young and ilelrille. / j
