TEMPERANCE NEWS

The report of the sixth "Y" Conference of the Young People's branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union held in Wellington this week proved most encouraging. Miss E. Appleby (conference "Y" president) presided. Addresses were given on "Would the Coming of World Peace Tend to Better Citizenship"? "The Ideals of Citizenship" and "What Does Citizenship Mean to a Woman?" Enthusiastic discussions followed. The election of officers for the coming year resulted as follows:—Dominion "Y" superintendent, Mr. C. M. McLav (Ai'&kland); conference president, Mr. C. Deans [(Christchurch); honorary vice-presi-dent, Missi E. Appleby (Auckland); vice-presidents, Miss Armit (Dunedin), Mr." T. Reiid (Christchurch); recording secretary, /Miss J. McKenzie (Christchurch) ; treasurer, Mr. Svd. Guthrie l(Southland).

The "Y" speech competition was most interesting and amusing—the subject being " The Importance of Temperance Enterprise." The winner was Mr. Les Clements (Sumner). All agreed that the conference had proved most helpful and inspiring.
