CONVERSION OF LOANS

standardised debentures

SUGGESTIONS BY THE TREASURY The standardisation of the form and lay-out of local body ..debentures in connection with the conversion of loans under the 1932-33 Act suggested by the Treasury in a circular issued to all local authorities. The Treasury suggests a uniform size for debentures and coupons, and states that a specimen debenture is available at branch offices of the Bank of New Zealand. Such. matters as the space between coupons, perforations,.lay-out, sequence and the quality of paper are discussed in the circular, which states that the move for standardisation was initiated by the Banks and had the strong support of the Treasury. It is suggested that such details would enhance the popularity, of local body debentures.

Tho Treasury also recommends that local bodies should extend to the new issues the concession of paying inland exchange when a coupon or debenturo is presented for payment at a place other than where it is domiciled. It is also suggested that holders should be permitted to preserve the denomination of debentures if desired.
