DAIRY BOARD DEFENDED NEW PROPOSALS RECEIVED [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] "WHAKATANiE, Tuesday A large number of Bay of Plentv farmers yesterday attended a meeting which was addressed by Mr. W. A. lorns, chairman of the Dairy Produce Board. Speaking of the new marketing proposals, which come into force in August, Mr. lorns said that the board would govern all operations in connection with the shipping of produce and that thero would be no. exceptions inimical to the factory concerned or the Dominion as a whole. An effort would be made to have all consignments from a small factory handled by one merchant instead of by threp and four merchants, as was at present the case. ... Defending the board and its activities, Mr. lorns stated that the board had nothing to hide and could go only as far as the industry would allow it to go. As a result of thei publicity work in England by the board, 30 per cent of the butter imported into England from New Zealand now went to the West Coast of England. Since 1927. when the supplies of butter into England from Now Zealand were 4500 tons a week, there had been an increase of 300 per cent up to the present season. Mr. lorns stated ho had been advised by tha Prime Minister that some very important proposals had been received from England in regard to the produca position and these would bo disclosed at'the conference to bo hold in Wellington on March 13.
