TELEPHONE BUSINESS
TREATMENT OF SUBSCRIBERS MORE "HUMANE" METHODS LONDON. March 1 Under the regime of Sir Kingsley Wood, the British Post Office is becoming humane. Hitherto, telephone subscribers who failed to pay their rental were ruthlessly cut off, and the line would only be restored on payment of ss. In future, personal touch methods, common in the United States, will be employed. A pleasant-voiced girl will ring up the home and say, "Good morning, I just want to remind you that you have forgotten to post a cheque for the quarter's! telephone account."
Moreover, if the renter says it is inconvenient to pay, the accounts department will discuss a later date or partial payment.
