ANZAC DAY CONCERT
COUNCIL GRANTS PERMIT RETURNED SOLDIERS' REQUEST A request for permission to hold a concert nu the evening of Anzac Day was received by the City Council last evening from the Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association. The latter stated that the programme would be in keeping with the sacred nature of Anzac Day and the proceeds would be used for the general benefit of returned soldiers.
Mr. A. J. Entrican opposed the request on the ground that Anzac Day was regarded .strictly as a Sunday, and should not be interfered with. He said the council's experience with Sunday evening concerts showed that it was impossible to ensure that the programmes were reallv suited to the day.
The council, without further discussion, resolved to grant the request, Mr. Entrican dissenting. " There would not be any Anzac Day at all, but for the soldiers," remarked .Mr. C. Bailey.
