DELAYS TO TRAINS
SUBURBAN LINE MISHAP EXPRESS ARRIVES LATE A delay of one and a-half hours occurred on the south suburban railway line yesterday afternoon when the engine of the 3.43 p.m. AueklandPapakura train developed mechanical trouble between Manurewa and Takanini. The engine was of the tanker type and a large part of it had to be dismantled before repairs could be effected. As this was not practicable where the engine stood the train was pushed to Papaknra by the 4.20 Auck-land-Waikato train. The Waikato train and the 4.00 and 5.20 Auckland-Papakura trains were delayed for some time, but fortunately the rush of suburban traffic had not. started at the time.
Delays due to hot-box trouble on a and the large volume of traffic on the line were responsible for the late arrival of the early express from Wellington vesterday morning. The train arrived at Auckland 39 minutes behind schedule, nine minutes having been lost after leaving Frankton Junction. The train consisted of 11 cars and was well patronised, which partly accounted for the time lost on the journey. At Ohakime there was a halt of 14 minutes, and seven minutes' delay occurred at Taihape.
