THAMES WATER RACE I COST OF RESTORATION GOVERNMENT CONTRIBUTION [BY TELEGRAPH OWN CORRESPONDENT] THAMES. Thursday In reply to the request of the Thames Borough Commissioner, Mr. C. L. Grange, for a Government grant toward the cost of restoring the Thames Borough water race after the break in the supply last year, the Minister of Mines, Hon. C. E. Macmillan, has written stating that the Government has approved of a payment of £345 to the borough on account of the cost incurred by it in carrying out temporary repairs to ensure an immediate resumption of the water supply for domestic purposes. The Minister added that the question of what annual contribution if any would be made toward the cost of maintaining the water race was still under consideration. The Water Committee, in its report to the Borough Advisory Committee, expressed gratification with the Minister's action, but stated that it felt a greater contribution should have been made in view of the Government's responsibility in connection with the race. The report was adopted.
