"I WILL NOT DO IT AGAIN"

"I am very sorry and will, not 'do it again," said Zan Jamicson Foley, a young billiards marker, after pleading guilty in the Police Court yesterday to vl charge of carrying on tho business of a bookmaker.

Detective-Sergeant McHugh said that on January 2, in consequence of complaints received while on the Ellerfclio racecourse, he kept accused under observation. Accused was in tho outer enclosure known as "The Hill," and was seen to roeeivc money from various people. "When approached by witness ho admitted bookinaking in a small way. He was quite frank and said be had taken bets on two races only. He had no proper records, but had made notes on a piece of 'paper. This was his first appearance before tho Court. Tho magistrate, Mr. Wyvcrn Wilson, imposed a fine of £25, with costs, 10s, default being fixed at one month's imprisonment. "Thclonger you are in paying the fiixj, the longer, probably, you will romombor it," said tho magistrate, in granting accused permission to pay in weekly instalments of £1 10s.

'T will' pay all right," said accused as he left tho Court.
