CADET WORK FILMED
KING'S COLLEGE BATTALION MOTION PICTURE RECORD The high standard of efficiency and training attained by the King's College Cadet Battalion has earned for it the distinction of being the first cadet organisation in New Zealand to be the central feature of a motion picture film. The filming of the battalion was carried out at the college grounds yesterday afternoon. The idea of filming the battalion on parade was the outcome of a casual remark made in the course of tho ceremonial parade and inspection on Friday last. While being inspected by Colonel J. E. Duigan, officer commanding tho Northern Command, the battalion was successfully put through some intricate advanced company drill movements. It was remarked that tht< movements were worthy of being filmed, and Colonol Duigan heartily concurred. He said it would bo fitting were it possible to givo the public some idea of the splendid work being accomplished among school cadets. The suggestion was taken up by the Defence Forco school area officer, Captain It. S. Judson, and arrangements were made for New Zealand Sound Scenes to film tho battalion for a newsreel. The filming was directed by Mr. It. Hayward, who is arranging to Jmve a running commentary released with the film, which is of the "silent" type. Tho cadets wero filmed while carrying out risic exercises, massed physical drill, platoon and company drill and signalling.
