NEW YORK MAYORALTY EXTRAORDINARY CAMPAIGN NEW YORK, Nov. 2 " Watch out for tombstone votes," is becoming a slogan as the New York mayoral election day draws near. It is revealed that tho names of at least five men who have been dead for from six months to 50 years appear among tho lists of sponsors of various candidates. Tho campaign is so keen now that efforts are being made to utiliso every political stratagem. There is a concerted move to bring " floaters " into the city for tho purpose of voting. The prosecuting agencies have been overtaxed investigating alleged frauds, and the police are reporting on thousands of suspected cases. Many arrests havo been made.
Tho mayoral election in New York will bo hold next Tuesday. Tho former deputy-Mayor, Mr. J. V. McKee, who received sensational evidence of his popularity when, although the present Democrat Mayor, Mr. John O'Brien was elected, ho received almost 300,000 votes, is standing against Mr. O'Brien as an Independent Democrat for tho Mayoralty. Tho defections from Tammany which were noted in the primary elections in September indicate that Mr. McKeo has a good chance of election, although the situation is further complicated by the candidature of Mr. F. H. La Guardia, a member of Congress, on a third socalled " fusion " ticket. Tho fusion is a coalition of tho anti-Tammany forces, including Republicans, Independent Democrats and other groups. Mr. McKee has claimed that ho would have the support of President Roosevelt, who was said to desire to oust Tammany from control of tho New York Democrat Party.
