DEATH AT RECEPTION

LADY HEWART'S COLLAPSE

SEIZURE IN MANSION HOUSE

LORD CHIEF JUSTICE'S WIFE By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received November 3. 6.25 p.m.) LONDON. Not. 3 Lady Hewart, wife of the Lord Chief Justice, Lord Hewart, collapsed and died when she was attending the last reception of the season given by the Lady Mayoress, Lady G rc-en a way, in the Mansion House. More than 1000 guests —brilliantly gowned women and men in uniform and evening dress —were present at the time in the lavishly decorated Egyptian Hall. At midnight Lady Hewart was sitting with a group of friends when suddenly she fell forward. She was removed to an ante-room, where she died. The Lord Mayor, f>ir Percy Grccnawav, ordered the reception to be abandoned, and the bewildered guests left after tendering horrified expressions of their deepest sympathy for Lord Hewart. The Lord Chief Justice was not present and the news of his wife's death was telephoned to him at his home. The late Lady Hewart formerly was Miss Sara W. Riley, eldest daughter of Mr. J. Hacking Riley, of Bury. She married Lord Hewart in 1592 and was the mother of .one son and one daughter.
