LEGAL PROBLEM
FORMER J.P.'S ACTS
TERMINATED APPOINTMENT
A remarkable position has arisen at Liverpool, New South Wales, as to the status of Mr. F. G. Pittogjc,. now of Mount Pritchard, who was appointed a justice of the peace in 1901. On December 11, 1918, his appointment was terminated on the ground that his address was unknown. At that date Mr. Pittock was on war service. He returned to New South Wales in March, 1919, and resumed his pre-war occupation of journalism, unaware that he was no longer a magistrate. In 1922, while on the staff of a Riverina newspaper, Mr. Pittock sat on the Bench at Moama, adjudicating with a Mr. Bartlett, J.P., on local cases of minor importance. Mr. Pittock stated that since then he has at various times signed depositions and transacted other business usually falling to the lot of honorary magistrates. The questions now arise whether it will be necessary to validate these matters, and in what manner this can be effected.
